SMALL TOWN DESIGN INITIATIVE | | | The NEXT MEETING IS WEDNESDAY, SEPTEMBER 29th AT 7:00 PM in the USA high school cafeteria. | | | Dear Community Member, | The first meeting of the Small Town Design initiative, was held on Tuesday December 15th at 7.00pm in the USA Auditorium. Professor Warren Rauhe, from the MSA Design Team, facilitated the meeting and gathered input from community members about what they want their community to become. | The idea of a Small Town Design Initiative came from Carl Osentoski, who is the Huron County Economic Development Coodinator and a Hometown USA Core committee member. The villages of Sebewaing andUnionville provided the financial support for this effort as an exciting way to move our communities forward. | Hometown USA (later officially changed to USA our Hometown, Inc) was developed after our first community forum in May 2008, where approximately 75 community members came together to discuss the strengths and areas that needed improvement. Ultimately discussing what we could become. This meeting was facilitated by Michelle Lantz (formerly Michelle Kamrad of Unionville). | From that first meeting several committees were formed and groups of committed community members are making some progress. The Lifelong Education Committee implemented a Community Education program and in the first year over 125 people participated in a variety of classes at USA High School. A student / ministers group, working under the Hometown Core Committee, is working hard to open a coffee house at the Whistle Stop in Unionville. The Business and Industry committee has met periodically to assess ways to bring viable businesses to our area. The Quality of Life committee has also met periodically to assess ways to enhance the quality of life in the communities of Sebewaing and Unionville. | Please join us in the USA High School auditorium on Wednesday, September 29 at 7.00pm. The Small Town Design Initiative provides another opportunity to share your ideas and to get involved in a collective effort to move our communities forward. Your participation will make a difference. | Thank you for your interest and we look forward to seeing you on September 29th. Best Regards, Dr. Ned Canfield Chairperson USA Our Hometown, Inc. |
